Geography and art have a long historical association; human relationships to nature and the understanding of the mechanisms which enable this, have been handfast with art's narrative and it's these influences which are growing in an age of displacement and detachment.

Hemming's new collection of work draws from his experiences in, and travels to, both the exotic and the ordinary, such as the Yucatan jungle, Australian rainforest and the Channel Islands. His sensitive awareness of human and physical landscape and the colour that permeates his paintings, creates a body of work that reminds us how we should understand and define a place and that each encounter with a landscape, people and culture, is part of a greater journey.
All previous thoughtshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00519931936690450288noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2920646258726713536.post-2979960126217019782012-02-28T01:54:00.001-08:002012-03-05T03:49:49.055-08:00Picasso show at TatePicasso and Modern British Art
It brings together over 150 spectacular artworks, with over 60 stunning Picassos including sublime paintings from the most remarkable moments in his career, such as Weeping Woman 1937 and The Three Dancers 1925.

It offers the rare opportunity to see these celebrated artworks alongside seven of Picasso’s most brilliant British admirers, exploring the huge impact he had on their art: Duncan Grant, Wyndham Lewis, Ben Nicholson, Henry Moore, Francis Bacon, Graham Sutherland and David Hockney.

Picasso and Modern British Art is the first exhibition to trace Picasso’s rise in Britain as a figure of both controversy and celebrity. From his London visit in 1919, working on the scenery and costumes for Diaghilev’s ballet The Three Cornered Hat; to his post-war reputation and political appearances; leading up to the phenomenally successful 1960 Tate exhibition.
Full of beautiful and inspirational artworks, this exhibition is an unmissable treat and a fascinating insight into how British art became modern.
All previous thoughtshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00519931936690450288noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2920646258726713536.post-40181830767111572272012-02-23T05:11:00.001-08:002012-02-27T11:11:01.253-08:00

I love the simplicity and vibrant colour combinations. How does he manage to combine such a vaste array of colours into a visually cohesive painting?! Obviously the white helps. Very impressive and well worth a look, click on the link below to see more.
I'm experimenting with a new execution of my isometric work. It's yet to be decided whether it'll be in our exhibition is April. All previous thoughtshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00519931936690450288noreply@blogger.com0Camberley, Surrey, UK51.3353899 -0.7428559999999606651.314847900000004 -0.78291849999996066 51.3559319 -0.70279349999996066tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2920646258726713536.post-73680877880242261202012-01-27T03:37:00.002-08:002012-02-19T02:23:52.743-08:00Gordon walters - Painting no.1 1965 (Auckland Art Gallery)
I saw this painting at the Auckland Art Gallery in NZ whilst on holiday. It's one of Gordan Walters studies using the famous New Zealand koru motif. It demonstrates a sophisticated understanding of geometric abstraction. Walters spent time in Europe during the 50's and this work in particular is an interesting uniting of Polynesian and European art traditions. http://www.aucklandartgallery.com/
